01Does this work on a DSLR?
Only through an XLR interface or recorder that supplies phantom power between 11 and 52V. The camera's 3.5mm mic input alone cannot power it.
02Do I need a windscreen for outdoor use?
Yes. The supplied clamp and case do not include wind protection, and a shotgun tube is very sensitive to moving air. Add foam for light breeze, fur for real wind.
03How close does the mic need to be?
Closer is better for a full sound. A short shotgun rejects the sides well, but distance still brings in room reflections. Keep it just outside the frame.
04Can I use it for singing or podcasting?
It works, but the narrow pattern punishes movement and the response starts at 90 Hz, so voices sound thinner than on a large-diaphragm cardioid mic.
