Strong match

Who this is for

  • Flying or stacking multiple boxes for long, narrow throw
  • Speech and music where tight vertical coverage keeps sound off ceilings
  • Single-box pole-mounted use on smaller corporate gigs

Consider the trade-offs

When to look elsewhere

  • A solo DJ or band wanting one simple top box
  • Full-range playback on its own; output drops below 75Hz
  • Crews watching weight — 52 lb each before rigging hardware

JBL VRX932LAP 12" 2-Way Active Line Array construction detail

Detail 01

100° x 15° coverage

Wide side to side, very tight top to bottom. One box covers a narrow slice; you add boxes to grow vertical coverage.

Detail 02

Three 1.5-inch HF drivers

Splitting the high end across three drivers keeps the horizontal pattern even and lets boxes couple cleanly when arrayed.

Detail 03

Onboard Class-D amp and DSP

Crossover, limiting and array shaping live inside the box. No amp rack or outboard processor to carry and patch.

Detail 04

powerCon in and loop-through, XLR loop-through

Power and signal daisy-chain box to box, so a hang takes one feed instead of a separate run per cabinet.

Detail 05

Input attenuator, 0 to 16dB

Trim level at the box itself — useful when a down-fill needs to sit quieter than the main hang.

Detail 06

11-ply birch plywood enclosure

Plywood walls are stiffer and less resonant than molded plastic, at the cost of more weight for the same size.

Final check

Know before you order

  1. 01The VRX-AF suspension frame is sold separately and required for flying
  2. 02Plan on subwoofers; useful output stops in the mid-70Hz range
  3. 03Flying needs the 10mm forged eyebolts plus a qualified rigger's sign-off

Product questions

Before you decide

Straight answers to the questions shoppers most often ask about this product.

01How many boxes do I need?

One works pole-mounted for a small room. Arraying starts paying off at two to four boxes, where the 15-degree vertical patterns stack into coverage that reaches the back.

02Does it need a separate amp or processor?

No. Amplification and DSP are inside the cabinet. You feed it line-level XLR and AC power, and both loop through to the next box in the hang.

03Can I fly it without the array frame?

Not properly. The VRX-AF frame is the intended suspension hardware and is sold separately. Without it you're limited to pole mounting or ground stacking.

04Will it run on 240V power overseas?

Yes. It accepts 90–132 VAC or 216–264 VAC at 50/60Hz, drawing about 3A per system at 240V. You'll need the right powerCon cable for the region.
