Strong match

Who this is for

  • Running FOH amps to mains across a stage or hall
  • Backline head to cabinet where the amp sits offstage
  • Permanent installs needing thick wire for long runs

Consider the trade-offs

When to look elsewhere

  • Guitar-to-amp use; this is unshielded speaker wire
  • Short pedalboard or rack hops where 50 ft coils up
  • Anyone whose amp uses SpeakON if the ends do not match

Rapco Horizon Speaker Cable 12 Gauge 50 ft. construction detail

Detail 01

12 gauge

Thick conductor, low resistance. Keeps power loss and damping-factor loss down over a long run.

Detail 02

50 ft length

Reaches from an offstage amp rack to the mains. Overkill for head-to-cab in the same rig.

Detail 03

Speaker cable, not instrument

Unshielded and heavy gauge. Using it as a guitar cable picks up hum; using an instrument cable for speakers risks the amp.

Detail 04

Black jacket

Disappears on a dark stage and under carpet at an install.

Final check

Know before you order

  1. 01Confirm the connector type matches your amp and cabinet before ordering.
  2. 02Never run this between guitar and amp input; it is unshielded.
  3. 03Fifty feet is heavy and takes real space in a cable trunk.

Product questions

Before you decide

Straight answers to the questions shoppers most often ask about this product.

01Can I use this as a guitar cable?

No. Speaker cable is unshielded and will pick up hum and noise on an instrument input. Use a shielded instrument cable there.

02Why 12 gauge instead of 16?

Thicker wire loses less power over distance. At 50 feet, 12 gauge keeps more amplifier output at the speaker and preserves damping.

03Is 50 feet too long for a head and cabinet?

Electrically it is fine. Practically it is a lot of cable to coil if the cab sits right under the head.

04Does thicker cable change my tone?

Not in the way a guitar cable does. It reduces resistance loss over the run, so the amp keeps better control of the speaker.
