01What's the difference between the Schilke 15, 16 and 17?
Cup diameter only, in this order: .674, .677 and .682 inch. All three use the 26 throat. The 17 is the widest and gives the most volume of the three.
02Is gold plating worth the extra money?
Dimensionally it changes nothing — same cup, rim and throat as the silver model 17. You're paying for the plating that contacts your lip, not for a different playing piece.
03Will this help my high register?
No. It's a medium-depth, medium-large piece. The shallow A cup models with the tight a-backbore, like the 15A4A, are the ones built for upper register work.
04What does the 26 throat mean?
It's the drill size of the hole below the cup. 26 is Schilke's standard across most of the Standard Series. Smaller numbers, like 27, are tighter and add resistance.
