The Korena take

With the Celestion Alnico Blue installed, the HT15 takes its 15W Class AB tube design toward a brighter, more mid-forward response. Harmonic tremolo runs into the tube spring reverb, and the amplifier is designed to break up more readily than Milkman’s Creamer. The 12-inch Alnico Blue has the tightest bass response of the available speaker choices and begins to break up under hard drive; once overdriven, it reduces low end while pushing the midrange further forward. The chassis is hand wired on a turret board with Mercury Magnetics transformers and Jupiter capacitors.

Strong match

Who this is for

  • Dialing in bright, prominent mids and tight bass response while driving the amplifier hard.
  • Using harmonic tremolo through tube reverb as part of an overdriven guitar sound.

Consider the trade-offs

When to look elsewhere

  • Setups where speaker breakup under hard amplifier drive is unwanted.
